What is Psychotherapy?
According to the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT):
Psychotherapy is a relationship in which one person enlists the professional assistance of another for the purpose of bringing about changes in their own feelings, attitudes and/or behavior. The task of the psychotherapist, therefore, is to help individuals make the changes they wish to make. Sometimes the person entering therapy knows changes are needed, but doesn't know what changes to make or how to go about making the changes. A psychotherapist helps a person figure this out.
How each therapist assists a person in reaching his/her goals depends on the therapist's training and theoretical orientation. Dr. Schlee is trained as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. For more about this, click on About Dr. Schlee or What type of therapy does Dr. Schlee offer?
